Meet the Client’s Needs
How do you make sure you get hired again? By making sure you know exactly what the client’s needs are and how you can meet them.
How can you make sure all of their needs are met?
You must communicate clearly and ask enough of the proper questions when you talk to them. The more specifics, the better.
Removing uncertainty about what’s expected leads to more success. Make sure when they say jazz, you understand exactly what that means. Does it mean Michael Buble? Does it mean Duke Ellington or Frank Sinatra? When they say bluegrass, do they mean Ralph Stanley or do they mean Trampled by Turtles. It is not enough to hear the words, “I want country music.” That encompasses a lot of things these days.
You must understand that everyone doesn’t have the same understanding of musical genres as yourself. Here’s the video where I discussed the idea in greater detail. As a wedding & private event musician of over 15 years, these are a few of the things I’ve learned:
Always perform to the occasion. Bring the appropriate repertoire and atmosphere to the event. Once again communication and removing uncertainty reduces the chances of this happening.
Here’s a simple guideline of some questions you can ask to help you on your journey to becoming the best musician you can be:
- Who are some artists you like?
- What are some of your favorite songs?
- How do you envision the music fitting in at your event?
- How many people do you expect approximately?
