The High Road To Linton ~ Clawhammer Banjo

The “High Road to Linton” is a traditional Scottish Tune that is popular in sessions.  It’s played a lot by bagpipers and fiddlers.  I’ve arranged it for clawhammer banjo as part of my on-going transcriptions of Welsh and Scottish music.

Clawhammer Banjo TAB / High Road To Linton

This clawhammer banjo arrangement barely uses the fifth string at all, so you’ll need a fast index (or middle) finger for the notes.  It’s more of a melodic clawhammer banjo style, as I’m trying to do all of the notes a fiddler would play.

There is some drop thumbing needed.

TUNING- I’ve arranged the tune in one of my personal favorite tunings.  I call it TRIPLE A.

A D A A D

I like this tuning on these songs because the droney-ness (is that a word?) gives it that bagpipish feel.

The TAB comes in digital PDF format.  I’ve included all markings of drop thumb on the TAB, as well as any tough left-hand fingerings.
