About Me:
I began playing the fiddle when I was 20 years old (guitar and banjo were my first instruments). My best friends were all fiddlers so I got them to show me a lot of things. Besides that, I mostly learned by ear in the beginning, slowing down recordings. A few years later I decided I wanted to increase my technical abilities. I took classical lessons locally and worked my way through a lot of the Suzuki books. Finally, I studied jazz improvisation under jazz pianist Kevin Bales for 5 years.
There is more but this is to explain that I have a broad based background in bluegrass and old-time, but also have a good understanding of things like sight-reading, how to properly hold the instrument/bow, etc. In addition, I can break down improvisation in any genre of music.
Rates And Lesson Info
My lessons are $40 per 30 minutes or $80 per hour lessons
I require students to take weekly lessons; I don’t offer one off lessons at my normal rates. This is because I believe part of learning an instrument is building momentum, being accountable, and regularly review (you don’t want to practice something wrong for two weeks). As a teacher, this also helps me do the best job for you and that’s what you deserve.
If you want a one-off lesson, my rates are $100 per hour. This is only offered for those that have been playing awhile.
